Laing O’Rourke-owned Select Plant is trialling a new lift system on the firm’s Tottenham Court Road job in central London.

The T-lift has been designed by manufacturer Terex and promises to transform the lives of tower crane operators.

Operators will no longer need to spend all-day in the cab and can now return to the ground for short rest and lunch breaks.

The lift will also offer easier access for any maintenance and allows for quick recovery of operators by site rescue teams if needed.

Select senior plant manager Darren Twelvetree said: “If an operator requires additional support or assistance in the air, support crews can now gain access to the cab in a faster and far more effective work manner rather than having to climb the frame to assist the operator.”
